Press release: Some Blobfish just aren’t photogenic
Press release: Some Blobfish just aren’t photogenic. Those photographed recently were said to be ugly and quite unhappy. Sadly the Psychrolutes marcidus, which makes its home in the water some 2,000-3,900 ft deep, was voted as the “World’s Ugliest Animal” in September of 2013.

Comparison of a photogenic specimen and a not-so-photogenic specimen of the Blobfish.
Despite what we thought, the Blobfish is a very happy creature, and has remained unaffected by the rude comments and articles, making it possibly the most Zen-like and beautiful fish the media has ever encountered.
Perhaps this creature’s persistent happiness is due to its ability to withstand great pressure.
